Coffee Ratios
AUTOMATIC DRIP COFFEE MAKER
A general guideline known as "The Golden Ratio" of coffee to water in an automatic drip coffee maker is 1:6 (1 tablespoon of coffee for every 6 ounces of water). For a stronger ratio, use 2 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 ounces of water. For a more accurate ratio, we recommend using a kitchen scale to weigh your coffee, since the density of the coffee varies according to the roast.
(2 Tbsp. = 1/8 cup = 10.6 g or 0.36 oz.)

FRENCH PRESS
French press coffee requires a coarse, even grind. The basic ratio is 2:6 (2 tablespoons of coffee for every 6 ounces of water). The basic ratio of cups to ounces is 4:1 (4 ounces of coffee to 1 cup of water).

POUR OVER
For those without a scale, using tablespoons and ounces to measure coffee, follow the ratio of 1:4 (1 tablespoon of coffee for every 4 ounces of water).

ESPRESSO
The basic ratio of coffee to water for espresso is 1:1 (1 tablespoon of espresso ground coffee for every 1 ounce of water). For those using a scale, the ratio is 7:1 (7 grams of espresso per 1 ounce of water).
