Faux Latte
A caffe latte is an espresso drink with foamed milk. This faux latte recipe is not as strong as a caffe latte, but it does not require an espresso machine. If you have an espresso machine without a milk frother, you can follow these instructions to froth the milk on the stove top or in a microwave.

YOU WILL NEED
Strongly brewed coffee (or espresso if desired)
2% or nonfat milk
Stove or Microwave
Sauce pan & whisk (if using stove)
Jar with lid (if using Microwave)
Wide shallow coffee cup
Spoon

INSTRUCTIONS
-
Make your espresso or strongly brewed coffee. For strongly brewed coffee, brew 2-3 tablespoons of dark or extra dark roast coffee for each 5 or 6 ounces of water, or simply add an additional tablespoon of coffee grounds to your normal ratio.
-
Froth the milk - Option 1 using a stove: Heat a small amount of milk on medium heat in a small saucepan: Watch closely until you see the first tiny bubbles form on the edge in about a minute and turn it off. Pour into a bowl and whisk it until foam forms.
-
Froth the milk - Option 2 using a microwave: Pour milk into the jar. Fill no more than halfway. Screw the lid on tightly, and shake the jar as hard as you can until the milk is frothy and has roughly doubled in volume, 30 to 60 seconds. Microwave the milk: Take the lid off the jar and microwave uncovered for 30 seconds. The foam will rise to the top of the milk and the heat from the microwave will help stabilize it.
-
Pour warm milk into the espresso: Pour the espresso or coffee into a wide, shallow coffee cup. Use a large spoon to hold back the milk foam, and pour as much warm milk as you would like into the espresso.
-
Add foam: Spoon as much milk foam as you would like onto your latte.
